En 1565, la reine Catherine de M\u00e9dicis le nomma \u00e0 la t\u00eate du prieur\u00e9 de Saint Cosme, qui devint l'un des lieux d'inspiration favoris du po\u00e8te. Il mourut en d\u00e9cembre 1585 et fut enterr\u00e9 \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur de l'\u00e9glise.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une p\u00e9riode prosp\u00e8re jusque-l\u00e0, au 18\u00e8me si\u00e8cle le Prieur\u00e9 de Saint Cosme, comme beaucoup d'autres institutions monastiques, connut des difficult\u00e9s financi\u00e8res, et fut d\u00e9finitivement supprim\u00e9 en 1742. Les moines se r\u00e9unirent \u00e0 Saint Martin de Tours.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant la R\u00e9volution fran\u00e7aise. Le prieur\u00e9 est confisqu\u00e9 et vendu comme bien national. Au 19\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, il est devenu une sorte de village avec 17 familles, qui pour la plupart vivaient de la terre.<\/p>\n<p>En mai et juin 1944, le prieur\u00e9 est victime de lourds bombardements alli\u00e9s visant le pont ferroviaire voisin.<\/p>\n<p>En 1951, le prieur\u00e9 devient propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de l'Indre-et-Loire et rouvre au public gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une donation de la Sauvegarde de l'Art Fran\u00e7ais. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9s dans l'id\u00e9e de pr\u00e9senter la vie quotidienne du monast\u00e8re qui a abrit\u00e9 le po\u00e8te Pierre de Ronsard \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque de la Renaissance, en utilisant un filtre contemporain.<\/p>\n<p>Le r\u00e9sultat encourage le visiteur \u00e0 se promener et \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir le caract\u00e8re unique de cet espace
